The Blindfold
A human being walks the whole of his life with a blindfold.
It is not his fault; he chose neither the material nor the color of the blindfold.
Most of all, he didn’t decide to put on a blindfold in the first place.
The blindfold was forced upon him by his family, surroundings, and society.
Poor little fellow, you might say.
He is indeed, for he walks through life blinded to what life truly is.
Now, what is tragic and heartbreaking is not that he wears a blindfold.
It is that he has had plenty of opportunities to see glimpses of life.
Whether it was when the blindfold fell on one side
Or when the knot untied itself
Or when the fabric faded
Each time, he was scared and would neither believe nor accept the harsh reality that he had been blind the entire time.
So he acted urgently and resolutely to do
Exactly the opposite of what nature invited him to.
He put the blindfold back on.
He tied the knot back.
He traded the blindfold for a brand new and sturdier one.
And each time, he returned to his
comfortable because habitual,
poor because deprived,
numb because senseless,
Blind life.
